ZFS will be finally publicy available in 06/2006 with Solaris 10 update 2.
I’m just back from a Sun technical presentation about this new toy. Really impressed!
I already played with a Beta release during my Solaris 10 training but some nasty bugs prevented a massive deployment. Now, it will be time to really think about it!
My preferred features are:
- Unlimited number of snapshots without performance degradation.
- Cloning of a snapshots for read/write operations
- Integration with zones. A pool can be delegated to a zone and the local root can created extra FS! Also quota are supported! Also, a filesystem where reside a zone files may be cloned and allow very quick deployments of backup zones (for disaster recovery, redundancy or tests)
