I’m writing this post in my garden, 22:15 still 23°. Yes, it’s summer time!
Soon, a lot of admins and security professionals will leave their office to go to the beach. Here are some tips for enjoying a safe comeback:
1. If you configure an auto-responder (classic behavior in big companies), don’t give too much information. Hackers don’t need to know where the admins will be away.
2. Unsubscribe from non-important mailing lists to keep your mailbox size to a reasonable size.
3. Review your scheduled jobs for the coming weeks.
4. Do NOT perform important changes just before leaving!
5. If you travel with your laptop to stay connected anyway, be sure to encrypt your data, backup your laptop and always use a VPN to connect to your base.
Finally, be sure to make enough free space to keep a trace of all the logs generated by your applications and devices! Logs have a real value to track security incidents and you’ll maybe have to investigate issues from the past once back to work!
Enjoy your summer time and stay secure!
