Christmas is close to us! It means a break for a lot of [net|sys]admins, business will slow down…
Things break where no one is around (that’s the Murphy’s law). So be prepared and enjoy your EOY period!
Make sure…
- Your backup procedures are up-to-date and operational (enough tapes?);
- Your file systems have enough free space to accept extra amounts of data (size of logs may increase);
- Your drives are clean, no failed disks in RAID sets;
- Your redundant systems aren’t working on a single leg;
- Your systems are fully patched;
- Your monitoring tools are working and report “green” status;
- Critical users will not expire on 31-dec 23:59 (to not be disturbed on the 1st or 2nd of January early in the morning);
- You don’t change nor update configuration of critical systems (at least, one full business cycle before you’ll be gone)
- Use “out-of-office” robots in a safe way (to avoid floods and not disclaim you’re out for two weeks to everybody)
- Unsubscribe from non-mandatory mailing-lists or RSS feeds (yes, difficult, I fully understand ;-)
It’s done? Then relax and have good times!
